Music Reflection - 28 May 2012

Today is the day of our last session in music. There were some 'emotional' feelings going on around the room. We again practiced playing the composition in our respective room. Then, Mr. Hary gave us an advice for Ronaldo to play the chords in different ways to mix the feelings and the moods. So, the whole music session, Ronaldo and I experimented on playing the composition with the different chord-playing variations.

Today, we were told that we are going to get a MDW on Monday and also that the last day of the submission is on the 8th of June which is the performance day. Afterwards, we went into each of our groups and we went to different rooms to practice. This was good because then we won't be interrupted by the others. This was pretty much it, and nothing else happened after this.

Today, we did the same thing as usual. We were practicing our composition and such. Nothing much happened after that, and we basically did this for the whole session. I have to practice the counter melody as soon as possible because the day of performance is near!

Today, is the day of the submission over our final draft for our composition. We submitted ours in time of course, and we edited a couple of parts from our last draft. We spent most of the music session to rehearse playing the composition in front of the class again. Afterwards, we gather up according to the groups and do whatever needs to be done.

Music Reflection - 15 May 2012

This is a video that we took about a week ago. This video is me and Ronaldo only practicing the song, and Steven wasn't here because he left early. So, this is me experimenting on playing the song with an electric guitar because Ronaldo and I thought that the sound from an electric is much more louder and clearer than in acoustic. The problem was that I wasn't able to control the noise level of the notes. Each note had a different noise level, so I have to control the noise level next time if we are going to use the electric guitar later for our performance day.

Music Reflection - 14 May 2012

Today is the due date of the draft of our composition, and my group obviously submitted the draft first. It is all thanks to Ronaldo for making the draft for the group. Then, we rehearsed playing the composition again. However, this time we got an advice from Mr. John about me playing my guitar. He saw that I play with an acoustic guitar that has an electric cord. So, he suggested that I bring a cable to connect it to the amplifier, so that the sound will be louder. Afterwards, we watched the others rehearsing their composition in front of the class.

Music Reflection - 11 May 2012

Today, my group didn't really do much because we already quite finished with our composition. So, basically today, we just rehearsed playing the song. After that, Ronaldo and I were thinking about the things that are needed when we are going to perform later. Then, I was practicing my part in the song, which is Counter Melody. I haven't really master this part yet. So, I better practice the part fast before the day of the performance.

Today, my group finished half of our composition today with all the chords, melodies and counter melodies. We practiced it together, and it sounded nice. So afterwards, we were trying to figure out the melodies for the second part because Ronaldo finished making the chords for the second part. We didn't have instrument class again to practice our composition.

Today, my group was to play for the teachers to see. It was good, but it wasn't perfect yet. I am supposed to play the counter melody, but we haven't finished making the counter melody yet. So, I had to play the main melody with Steven. The composition wasn't yet finished, but the teachers gave us good comments. We didn't have any instrument class again because we were to practice our composition.

Today, Mr. John was absent because he had to go with the 7th grade in a trip. So, Mr. Herry substituted for us. Today, we had to show 4 bars of our composition on the board. If we compare with the others, our group is the simplest one because we didn't have any difficult notes/melodies and rhythm/beat to play. We didn't have any instrument class today because we were practicing & making each of our composition.

Music Reflection - 23 April 2012

Today, Mr. John wasn't present so Mr. Herry substituted instead. We learned a lot of things today that literally made my mind explode. We learnt about soprano, alto, tenor and baritone ranges. Today, I just learned that there are three different 3 clefs that we can use, which are: G Clef, F Clef and the Bass Clef. Today, we started another assessment which is to make a composition. We were divided into groups, and I am with Ronaldo & Steven. We have to make a composition that includes 32 bars. And we manage to make two bars. We didn't have instrument class because of doing the assessment.

Music Reflection - 20 April 2012

Well, today was the day of the singing assessment, and I think that it actually went good because we all thought that it going to sing in a group, but it turns out to be individually. However, we had a talk with Mr. John, and he changed his mind and let us to sing in a group of two threes and one four. I was singing with Verena, Vincent, Yohanes and myself. The singing was actually quite good because I think that I was able to sing all the notes in the correct pitch. Afterwards, we all sang 'We are the World' by Michael Jackson, for fun. We didn't have instrument class because we spent most of the time singing, listening to music and writing a reflection about the assessment.

Today, we learnt more about chord progression and after that we learnt about making melodies based on the chords. It turns that if you were to make a composition, it is easier if you make the chords then the melody because the melodies will be based on the chords. Afterwards, we practiced singing the 'Price Tag' song again, and this time the rap part was actually better than last time, but we need to practice if we want to nail it. Soon after that, we went to instrument class and just playing some songs.

Music Reflection - 13 April 2012

In today's music session, we learnt about chord progression. It was quite hard for me because this was like the first time I learnt about chord progression, but I did manage to get some points out as I knew some things about chord already. Then, we practiced singing 'Price Tag' again, but this time we did the rap part and we weren't quite good at that part yet because you have to sing it in a fast tempo and beat. Afterwards, we went to instrument class and I played & practiced the duet with Ronaldo again. I played better, but not good.

Music Reflection - 8 April 2012

The first music session after term break, and we were given the schedule of our assessment of the term. The first assessment that we are going to do is to sing a pop western song called "Price Tag" by Jessie J. My first reaction to this was a long pause of silence because I have never heard of this song and I don't like the song at all. The reason that I reacted like this is because I never listen to today's music at all as I listen to the old times' music, like blues and rock, all the time. It was quite painful for me to listen and sing this song, but I have to bear the pain because I have to sing this for the assessment. After the singing, we learned chord progression, and afterwards we went into instrument class. In instrument class, I played a duet with Ronaldo. I had a hard time to follow through on play the song because I have never listen to the song, and the part was quite hard for me to play.

Music Reflection - 28 March 2012

Today is the day of the assessment! I was nervous of having the thought of an audience, and awkwardly the audience were our friends and that really made me more nervous. As we play, I got more nervous and embarrassed because I am most lightly the one who couldn't play the song, and all my friends are watching me. I think that the overall performance of all of us was good, but mine was terrible. I forgot some parts of the songs, and the only thing I could do was just take the embarrassment because I was the worst of all (in my opinion).

Music Reflection - 26 March 2012

Somehow, our assessment wasn't to be today, and I really forget the reason for this. However, it is postponed to two more days, even though that we don't have any music sessions on that day. I think that the reason for this was that some of us were absent today, so it got postponed because we can't perform without all of us together. So, instead of doing the assessment, we practiced the two songs again. Well, today I did better than I did last time, but I still need practice because I am not perfect at playing it, but I am capable to do some parts of the two songs.

Today, we practiced Salut D'Amour and Minuet again. We all actually get to the 4th page of the Salut D'Amour piece, except for me. I was literally confused on what I am actually playing. That day, I only managed to play 2 pages of Salut D'Amour and 1 page of Minuet because the part in these pages are actually easier to play. We were told that we will do the assessment on the nest session, which is on Monday.

Today was supposed to be the day of the assessment where we all play the classical songs together, but it got postponed to the next session of music class. I think that the reason why it got postponed is because that most of us weren't really prepared and ready to play for a couple of reasons; 1. We were too lazy to do it now, or 2. We all couldn't play the two songs in synchronize yet.

Music Reflection - 12 March 2012

Today, we practiced the two classical songs again with everybody in the class. We were trying to play the Salut D'Amour song for two pages and the Minuet song for one page only. It was quite hard for me to get the grasp of playing Salut D'Amour and Minuet at the same time because the two have different rhythms, and the type of the two songs are also different. Salut D'Amour is more like a sad song, whilst Minuet is more like a happy and jolly song that we all can enjoy.

Basically, we mixed the theory class with the instruments class to practice the two songs again. It was quite harder for me because I forgot the music sheet at home and I also forgot how the songs go. So, it took me sometime to catch with the others. We practice the songs individually first, and then all together.

Today, we practiced Salut D'Amour again, and got a new piece called Minuet by Luigi Boccherini. The tempo of this new piece is somewhat harder than Salut D'Amour's, and the note is quite hard also. However, we were able to perform good enough in the first try. So, now we have two songs that we have to play for this term. Afterwards, we all went to instruments class.

Today, we were introduced the music called Salut D'Amour. We all played it together, and it actually went well because the first page of that piece is quite easy to play. So, most of the time was being used to practice this song. We also got told that all of us are to play this song in either this term or this semester as an assessment. Then, we went to instrument class.

Music Reflection - 24 February 2012

Today, we were supposed to submit the booklet about romanticism that is compared to modern music. Well, most of us submitted the booklet, and only some are left. Then, my group were to write a reflection about the presentation that we showed last session. After that, the other groups presented theirs and took most of the time of the whole session. So, we didn't have any time to go to instrument class, which is quite sad because we can't practice.

Music Reflection - 20 February 2012

Today was the day to present the presentations, my group went up first. Well, ironically, we were the only ones that presented that day because the other groups weren't ready. One group had a technical difficulty, whilst the other just weren't ready. The group took turns to talk, but mostly me, Yohanes and Ronaldo that talked the most. The presentation was good because not only explaining things about romanticism, but we got to play the songs also from Ronaldo's laptop. Well, afterwards we went to instrument class to practice the music piece.

Music Reflection - 17 February 2012

Today was actually the day to present the presentations, but it was delayed to Monday. I actually don't know why it was delayed, but it was unfortunate because my group had finished making the presentations. So, instead we were given a music piece called 'Salut D'amour', and all of us perform this piece together. This may be somewhat easy for me because I can read notes, but there are some notes that I can't read. Also, we were given the result for the assessment that we had before. I think that my score was in the middle, so it was good because it shows an improvement for me.

Today was the day of the assessment about notations. The assessment was mostly about harmony, melodic and natural scales. It was also about the words about the romanticism from the glossary. I was quite worried at the results because I wasn't quite sure that I get the answers correct for harmony and melodic scales. After doing the assessment, we went to instrument class.

Well, today we didn't do that much actually, first we practice and learn more about harmonic and melody scales. Everyone of us had to take a turn to go to the board and 'do' or 'draw' a scale that the teacher told us to do. Afterwards, we went to instrument class. Also, we were told that the due date for the presentation is near.

Today, before we even started the session, all of us were talking about the trip to Singapore. This trip is only for the ARTS students. The trip is to go to Singapore and then watch a show a musical show called "Wicked". The class was thinking about going to Europe, but the Arts teachers already made their mind. Afterwards, we learned theories again, and little information about romanticism. Later, we went to instrument class.

Today, we studied more about theories such as scales, major & minor chords and etc. We were also given two sheets of paper about romantic music and a glossary of words that most commonly being used in romantic music time. We also got a chance making the presentation, but the time given wasn't that much. Afterwards, we went to instruments class.

Music Reflection - 30 January 2012

Today, we were introduced on the next assignment that we are going to do. The assignment will involve in romantic music. First, we are to give a presentation about romantic music and this has to be done in a group of three's and four. After doing the presentation, we have to make a booklet on the comparison of romantic music with modern music. For the presentation, my group includes myself, Ronaldo, Verena and Yohanes. So, basically what we did today was discussing on how we are going to make the presentation and the things that we have to put in.

Music Reflection - 27 January 2012

Today is the today of the singing assessment! Before we started the assessment, we were given the preparation before singing which includes: humming, pitch and rhythm. The singing assessment will go by alphabetically order from the list, and I was number three. I personally think that I need to work it a bit more because it was a jazz song, but I was quite stiff and not relaxed. Also, I need to work on the pitch of the singing. If I were to give myself a score for that, I would give myself a seven out of ten because it wasn't good enough.

Music Reflection - 20 January 2012

Today, we were continue on practicing the humming and the song. However, now we have to sing the song individually. It was quite a shame that now we have to do it alone because I was happy with singing it within a group of three and my group was good. We all had quite a lot of time to practice. We were to choose the tune for the singing later on to really match up your voice. My tune was +1, and personally it was a bit high for me but I was challenging myself to do it. We were told that the singing assessment will be on Friday next week as Monday next week is Chinese New Year. Then, we went into instrument class.

Music Reflection - 16 January 2012

Today, we were just continuing on what we did from the last two sessions. We were practicing on vocalising, humming and other stuff that will help to prepare singing. We were all put into groups of three. I was with Brian and Yohanes, and we were to practice singing the song together. Our group got a really good compliment from a teacher that we sing well together, and we were to sing in front of the class first. Afterwards, we went to instrument class.

Music Reflection - 13 January 2012

Today was the first music sessions after the Winter Holiday. We were introduced on the assessments and projects that we will do in the term and semester. Even if today was the first music sessions, we already got an assessment to do which was singing an Indonesian song that the teachers gave us. We were learning on the preparations that we should do before singing. We also had time to learn the lyrics of the song and the actual song itself. It was quite weird because the rhythm of the song is jazz. I was expecting that the song is more likely a national song than a jazz song.
