Music Reflection - 28 November 2011, Monday

Today, we had to do the MDW, which is short for music developmental workbook for term 2. We weren't really supposed to be finished by today, but we have to finish this by Wednesday. I finished only one section of the workbook, and there is about 4 sections in total. We also have to include pictures of our blog into the workbook. Afterwards, some of the people who failed to get a passing score on the quiz had to redo their tests, and there were 4 people including myself. I was surprised with my new score because in my first one I got 4 correct out of 40 questions and now I got 21 out of 40. I still don't get a passing score because the passing score is 25 out of 40, but I am very happy to be able to see the improvements from my first quiz with my second one. I hope I can improve a lot more by the end of the school year!

Music Reflection - 24 November 2011, Thursday

Today, we got our results back from the quiz that we had on Monday and my score was the lowest from all because I still have no idea about major scales and all the theories like that. By seeing the result I got from the quiz, I REALLY need to learn about major scales and the other theories as well or else I will be way behind. Afterwards, we went into instrument class and I had a little 'tutoring' from Mr. John on major scales. However, I still need to learn even more to catch up with my classmates. So, I will have to search the theories of music by myself from the internet or I can ask my friends to help me a bit.

Today, we had a quiz about the things we learned last week or on the last session which were major & minor scales, diminished and one other thing. I don't think that I am going to get a good score, I think I will be the one who will get it the lowest because I don't understand this stuff as I have never learnt it before. Today was the submission of the booklet about "classical vs popular music" and I think about four people didn't submit it because either they may be confused with the due date or they just couldn't finish it on time. Music Reflection - 14 November 2011, Monday

Today, a few people were practicing on playing the composition that we made by playing it in front of the class. I think about three people played their compositions. After that, today was the last day of the submission of the composition. There were two people who didn't submit it on the last sessions, so they have to hand it in today. Afterwards, we went to instruments class for about 40 minutes.

Music Reflection - 10 November 2011, Thursday

Today, we were to submit the composition that we made and it has to be made from the program "Finale". Most of the people have completed and submitted the composition, but I think about two people didn't finish on making it yet. Afterwards, we were to make a reflection on the whole process of making the composition. It was quite complicated for me because I have never really made a composition. I had to think of the genre/type of the composition and I had to think of the notes that I am going to use. I also had to think of the sound, if it's good to hear or not. Subsequently, we were told of our next project which is to make a report on 'Classical v.s. Popular Music' and we had to submit this next week. Then, we went to instrument class for about 10 or 20 minutes.

Music Reflection - 7 November 2011, Monday

Today, we were told our grades for the singing assessment we had from the last session and I got 6 out of 10. I was quite happy with the score I got from this, but Mr. John and Mr. Herry suggested that I redo it. So, I did and the score improved from 6 into 7. Even though that the score only improved one point, I am satifised with it because I think that I have done quite good with the improved performance. Mr. Herry adviced me that I should improved the singing by practice the song a lot of times and pay attention into the articulation and the pitch. Some other people redo their singing and Steven also sang his singing assessment. After that we went into the instrument class for about 10 minutes.

Music Reflection - 3 November 2011, Thursday

Today was the day of the singing assessment. I was the one who sang first and I think that I did it quite well because I remember the lyrics and I think I sang on the right pitch or the tune that I was given. I am quite happy with how the singing turned out for me. Everybody sang today except for Steven because he couldn't sing as he had a cough or a cold. Afterwards, we went into our instrument class.

Music Reflection - 31 October 2011, Monday

Today, the whole class sang 'Indonesia Pusaka' together and it is actually the first time for me to hear this song because I have never listened to this song. So, when my classmates were singing, I was trying to copy what they are saying because I don't know the lyrics of this song. We were to sing this song for our first singing assessment in this term in the next session. After that, we were to continue on making the rondo composition and we had to submit the final draft of the composition in the next session.

Music Reflection - 6, 10, 13, 17, 24 & 27 October 2011

In these 6 days or 12 sessions, we were just basically working on the rondo composition. I was working on making the B line, but couldn't finish it in these 12 sessions because I had no idea on what notes that will match the ones I made in the A line. When making this, I had to think about what kind of composition I am trying to make and if the song is good to hear. We also learned about both major and minor scales.

Music Reflection - 3 October 2011, Monday

Today, we started the second term.. We were studying on minor scales and we also started a new project. The project is that we have to make a rondo composition. We have to make a total of 5 lines: Line A, Line B, Line A', Line C and Line A'. In one line, there is 8 bars. It has to be 4 beats, which means that in 1 bar there is 4 notes with 4 beats. Luckily, I was able to finish A and both A' lines, but couldn't start on making lines B & C as the time ran out. The reason I was able to finish making 3 lines because I got a help from Mr. Hary.

Music Reflection - 26 September 2011, Monday

Today, one the students redo his' or her's performance for classical composition. After that, we little bit reflected on the theory of scales. Also, our blogs were checked by the teachers to see if we posted the reflections for each sessions and the video of us training the music of the classical composition. Luckily, I have done the reflections and not the video as there were some technical difficulties regarding posting the video to the blog. After that, we respectively went to play our specific instruments.

Music Reflection - 22 September 2011, Thursday

Today, we were told our scores for the performance of singing a pop song, the presentation about the musical eras and the performance of the classical composition of your chosen composer. So far, I think that I have done quite good for this because all of my scores are in average, so it is in a quite good level to be in. However, I would like to improve and get a much better score. Then, some people were told to perform either their singing a pop song or the classical composition again to record it and put it in an exhibition. Music Reflection - 19 September 2011, Monday

Today, we got our results for the quiz we had last week and my score was the lowest from all because I still don't really understand about the theory of scales yet. If I had studied, then my score would probably get a bit higher than that. After that, some people redo their perfomance of their composition from their chosen composers. I didn't redo because I think that the score was quite good and I am happy with my first performance. Then, we went to play our specific instruments.

Music Reflection - 15 September 2011, Thursday

Today, we had a 25 minutes quiz about major 7 scales and dominant 7. I was surprised because I thought that we are going to have the quiz on Monday next week, and I didn't study. So, I pretty much guessed all the answers in the quiz, used my instincts and used my little knowledge of scales because I didn't prepare and I still haven't fully learned the theory of scales. I think that I won't get a high score like about 6-7 because I don't know that much about the theory of scales and I didn't study. After that, we went to play our specifc instruments.

Music Reflection - 12 September 2011, Monday

Today, everybody performed their compositions. I think that I did quite good this time because I remember the whole thing, I played without any hestitation and stops. I played Fur Elise by Ludwig van Beethoven. However, I played the simple version of it and not the hard version because I need more time if I were to play the hard version, and we didn't have that much time to prepare, a bit more time and I probably could play the hard version. I think that I probably get 7 - 9 because I think that I did good, but not that good enough to get myself a 10. After that, we went to play our specific instruments.

Music Reflection - 8 September 2011, Thursday

Today, we were supposed to perform our compositions from the composer that we chose, but quite a lot aren't that ready. So, instead we had a 'trial' performance where you play and if you play good, that will be your score. It was a shame because I was ready, but I was told to improve on my playing. So, I was glad that the performance was delayed, if it wasn't delayed then my score won't so good. After that, we went back into our instruments classes.

Music Reflection - 22 August 2011, Monday

Today, we had another review on major and major 7 scales again, but also we learnt about the triad in major 7 scale and the 1st & 2nd inversion. Also, today was the day I redo my singing assessment because my last one wasn't so good. I felt relieved and felt much better because I have finally released the stress of singing in front of an audience and the happiness of the improved score. However, I once again didn't remember the lyrics for the 2nd part of the song because my mind just got a blackout or something. At lunch, I perfectly remembered all of the lyrics, but then in the singing itself, I just forgot about the lyrics for the 2nd part of the song. Then, I just skipped that part and continued with the rest part of the song. But in overall, I think I did a good job, much better than the last one.

Music Reflection - 15 & 18 August 2011

In the 15th and 18th of August 2011, we basically had reviews about major and major 7 scales. Everyone knew what to do except me because I never learned about theories of music, I just do practical and playing on the guitar all the time. So, I had no idea what I had to do in those two days because I never learnt scales before. Then on 18 August 2011, we listened to two of the classmates that wanted to redo their singing assessments. After that, we just went to our specific part of the instrument groups and play.

Music Reflection - 11 August 2011, Thursday

Today, we presented the presentation about the musical eras and the composers. Our group was the longest because we have the most slides out of every other groups. Because of having a lot of slides and being the longest, the audience were bored and I can see that by their faces and that they didn't really pay any attention to us. And I agree with this, even I was bored because we had no music to keep the audience entertain. The thing that makes us have a lot of slides was that after explaining each of the musical eras, we tell about 4 composers in quite detail in the specific era and then our favourite composer for that era.

Music Reflection - 8 August 2011, Monday

Today, we were put into groups for about 3-4 and we had to do a little presentation about each of the musical eras, like: Baroque, Classical, Romantic and Modern. Just do a little description about each of the musical eras. Also, there were about two people that didn't do their singing assessment yet, so they sang after the presentations. My group for the presentation were Steven, Shavira and myself. I think that the little presentation wasn't that good because we weren't that prepared for one of my group mates was fooling around. For next class, we are going to be in the same group we got today and present the musical eras a bit more detail and the well-known composers in that era.

Music Reflection - 4 August 2011, Thursday

Today is my first music session because I was absent last week for family occasions or events and I had a little bit mixture of cough and cold. I knew that today there is a singing assessment because I asked my friends. Unfortunately, I didn't know the full detail of this assessment, so I came unprepared. I was told that we can sing while playing with our instruments or do karaoke. I was thinking of doing a karaoke and I thought there is going to be a karaoke system for us to sing to, but there wasn't. It turns out that what my friends meant by karaoke was that we are allowed to bring the music background (no lead vocals) with us. So I was unprepared and I was trying to download the song that I had chosen in karaoke version while the others was doing their assessments. I got it, so I was ready and when I was about to sing, the music sounds terrible; the music sounds somewhat weird and it wasn't even in the right pitch. I didn't do good... I was told that I can do it again in the next session, but depends on the teacher's mood. I hope that I can do it again and I will be ready for it.
